CWA members honoured on Australia Day

A number of CWA of NSW members have been awarded an OAM this Australia Day recognising the time and effort given by these women.

Elaine ArmstrongMrs Elaine Armstrong was awarded an OAM for service to the community through the Country Women's Association. Mrs Armstrong has given much of her time to the CWA over many years, serving as State President from 2010-2013, State Vice President 2008-2009 and State Secretary, 2000-2003. She has also held roles in the Riverina Group as President, Representative to Executive, Secretary and International Officer as well as roles in her local Branch, Oura, as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Mrs Lola Cummins was awarded an OAM for service for service to local government, and to the community of Junee. Mrs Cummins was a councillor from 1983-2016, serving as deputy mayor from 1995-1997 and mayor from 1997-2014. During her time she oversaw many improvements to the Junee area. Lola assists her local CWA branch, Junee Evening, as a member and has also served as secretary for the Riverina Schoolboys Football Carnival as well as being a part of Junee Sports and Facilities Council, Junee Little Athletics Club, Junee Celebrations Committee, Junee Arts Council and a member of the Rotary Club of Junee.

Mrs Dorothy Every was awarded an OAM for service to the community through a range of organisations. She has served the CWA Northern Tablelands Group as President, Representative to Executive and Treasurer. She has previously served at her local CWA branch, Ben Lomond, as President and continues to serve as Secretary. She has been a valued member for her 37 years at the branch. Mrs Every also gives her time to help organise local events and serves on various community organisations.

Mrs Noeline Munro was awarded an OAM for service to the community of the Southern Highlands. She is currently serving as the President of her local CWA branch, Bowral, and has previously held roles of Vice President, Catering Officer and Publicity Officer. Mrs Munro has also volunteered at aged care facilities, sporting clubs and the local high school.

Mrs Judith O'Brien was awarded an OAM for service to the community of the Southern Highlands. Mrs O’Brien serves as Vice President at her local CWA branch, Southern Highlands Evening Branch, as well as being a chair/co-chair for the Regional Advisory Committee for the Southern Region and Cancer Council of NSW, Southern Highlands Relay for Life Committee. She also served as an executive member of Moss Vale Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs Barbara Smith was awarded an OAM for service to the community of the Eurobodalla region. Mrs Smith has served as Vice-President and The Land Cookery Officer in her local CWA branch, Bodalla, and volunteered as a judge of baked goods at various local agricultural shows. She volunteers at a number of schools teaching baking or assisting in the canteen. Mrs Smith is the captain of the Eurobodalla RFS Catering Brigade and Call Out Officer for the Moruya Brigade. She served as a member of the Moruya Show Society and was a Day Care Volunteer at Moruya Hospital.

CWA of NSW sends congratulations on these well-deserved awards to all these members who work tirelessly to assist others.
